Chichén Itzŕ is the most important ancient Maya site of the Yucatan peninsula. Its name means 'Itzŕ's mouth of well' and the most of archaeoloists think it was inhabitated by Maya people since 600 AD. About in 1100 AD it was invaded by Toltecs which came from Tula, in Central Mexico. They blended their culture with the Maya one and introduced the myth of the Feathered Serpent called Kukulcŕn. |
