Lake Maggiore, from the ancient Latin name Lacus Maximus, is the second largest lake in Italy. It is called also Verbano, from the Celtic words 'ver' (big) and 'benn' (container). It's situated in northern Italy, in the pre-Alpine zone. In the northern extremity a fifth of its area is part of Switzerland. It is a lake of glacial origin, moulding 7-8 million years ago by the glaciers. It's about 75 kilometers long and its maximum depth is 370 meters.(please, wait, I have to go on with my pages...)

My mum and dad took me here years and years ago. Now I'm going back...I'll especially keep the restaurant tip in mind. (haven't decide which lake yet)
