After a period of some tourist killings in the Miami area people here were a bit nervous about travelling to and staying in Miami when we were planning our trip there. Working in the travel industry myself, I was not impressed by these horror stories and we set off on our first Florida trip. We arrived with some hours of delay, so it wasn't before 10 PM that we drove our rented car from the airport to Miami Beach. To keep tourists in the right track, the authorities had clearly indicated the itinerary between the airport and South Beach with "Follow the Sun" signposts. We arrived on Ocean Drive at prime time: we could only cruise slowly down this avenue, because everybody was driving here to be seen and outside the cafes people were sitting and watching other people and cars go by... There was music everywhere and we felt just had arrived at some Caribbean island.
