Mojave National Preserve Travel Guide: 45 reviews and 95 photos

We crossed the Mojave Desert on our way from Palm Springs to Las Vegas. It was my first trip through an American desert and I would never have expected to find so much variation in the scenery here. This is my tip for a good, alternative itinerary between Palm Springs and Las Vegas:

- Follow route 62 northeast untill Twentynine Palms and stock up on food and water in case you have left without any...
- Here, turn left in the direction of Amboy, and cross the Sheephole Mts.
- In Amboy, turn right at the T- crossing and after a few miles turn left again
- After having crossed the Interstate 40, you enter the actual Mojave National Preserve
- Keeping the same direction you arrive in Kelso. Here you cross a railway. The railway station is a good photo spot!
- Keep a northeasterly direction and you arrive in Cima
- In Cima, keep left in a northwesterly direction to finally arrive at the Interstate 15 that takes you either Las Vegas or all the way back to Los Angeles...
