Getting TO/AROUND: From directly outside the arrivals hall at Venice Marco Polo Airport, you can catch a bus to the Piazzale Roma Bus Station in the city. Tickets are on sale from the driver and the fare is 3 euros. The journey takes about 30 minutes, depending on traffic conditions. The bus station in the city is close to the Santa Lucia railway station but on the opposite side of the Grand Canal. You should be aware that wherever you want to go in Venice, there will be bridges to cross so if you're carrying heavy luggage, this could be a problem.

Public water buses run from the airport to various points in the city but the journey tends to be quite long and unless you are staying close to one of the stops, they are of limited use.

The most convenient way to arrive is by water taxi and many hotels have landing stages directly outside. However, they are rather expensive, with a one-way trip costing 90 euros. The 'taxi rank' is clearly signposted in the airport and is a short walk from the terminal building, along a covered walkway.

Getting TO/AROUND: Undoubtedly the best way to see Venice is on foot and it's fun wandering around the tiny streets (and invariably getting lost). However, this gets tiring so it's a good idea to buy a pass for the Vaporetto water buses, enabling you to 'hop on, hop off' as many times as you like. They can be bought from any Vaporetto ticket office. A 24-hour card costs 12 euros and a 72-hour card, 25 euros.
