The islandgroup Acores , consists of 9 islands. Sao Miguel , Santa Maria , Terceira , Graciosa , Sao Jorge , Pico , Faial , Flores and Corvo . My visit were to the main island Sao Miguel , and this page is about that island . The island group is situated almost in the middle of the North East Atlantic ocean .All the islands origns from vulcanic activity , moswt of them are today not active , only 10 are still active.

Ponta Delgada is the largest city on the islands 20600 inh. It became Capital in 1546 , after a earthquake in 1522 had destroyed the former Capital Villa Franca Do Campo. Ponta Delgada is the economical and administrative center of the Acores , and the President has his official residence there.

The islands are very fertile , green and beautiful . Tourisme has not yet overrun the islands . Crime is almost none excistant , and a traveller will feel very secure there , one of the last peaceful places on earth.
