<font color=blue size=+1>Albufeiras history has been totally drenched by tourism, and amongst the tourism the most photographed landmark, the fishermans beach. Crammed with lovely coloured boats, the fishermen will often grill their morning catch on the sand. Here is a photo of a fisherman mending his nets on the beach in Albufeira</>

<FONT COLOR=BLUE SIZE=+1>Originally Albufeira was a tiny fishing village at the mouth of a small river, protected by a moorish castle.</>

<font color=blue size=+1>Its cliff top position and labyrinthine streets lay out of the original town has a military significancs in the 13th Century when the Moors were able to hold out against the efforts by King Alfonso 111 to expel them from Portugal. Albufeira was one of the last towns to fall.</>

<fonr color=blue size=+1>Some of the old charm is still there, and it is to be found in the labyrinth of narrow streets, lined with whitewashed houses, apartments, cafes and shops, which lead down the hillside to a central square, Largo Eng. Duarte Pacheco. The square is a good place to sit and watch the world go by. Nearby, next to the tourist information office, a tunnel at the end of a pedestrian-only mall leads on to the town's main beach.</>
