Québec is very heavily touristed, and deservedly so. It functions as a convenient getaway for North American Francophiles, as a major university and shipping center, and of course as the "national capital" of Québec. Oddly for a city at the very gates of the gigantic sub-Arctic wilderness of northern Québec, the city is immensely charming, and possesses one of the world's heaviest concentrations of souvenir shops -- and what is probably the world's most frequently photographed hotel. (You probably can't afford to stay there.) |
