Wake Island is the farthest point East of all US Territories, just across the International Dateline from Hawaii.

It's where America's day begins!

We stopped here overnight during a flight from Japan to Hawaii. The runway is a welcome relief after seeing only seawater for so many hours.

Nice Wake Island Page!!! I spent about months on Wake two years ago, beautiful place. I have heard though, that a tropical storm came through last year and destroyed most of the structures. Do you know anything about this?

Wake is at 166 degrees, 35 minutes, of longitude east of Greenwich, England & just West of the International dateline (IE it is tomorrow their now). So to say something is as the eastern most part of the USA one starts in Greenwich goes east.

It's nice to know the visual image of relatively recent Wake Island... as I was listening to a long story the other day about how that runway was really a necessary sight for sore eyes esp. in the pre-1970's military travelling...
