Doha is one of those cities that I could certainly return to over and over again. It's off the 'tourists' radar, and not a common destination.
Everyone that I've met and interacted with has been incredibly friendly. Dispite a general dislike of westerners in this region, every here has been very open minded and hospitable.
The nation is only recently emerging from the obscure. It's not ad developed as Dubai, but they are certainly catching up at a record pace.
The Asian games will be hosted in Doha in December 2006, there has been a flurry of construction activity and preparation. There's a lot at stake; Qatar is hoping to be the center of sport in the region.
- Pros:A clean mix of modern and historical buildings, and culture.
- Cons:It's quite hot in the summertime, nearly unbearable.
- In a nutshell:A wonderful mix of new and old Arabia.

Taxis are impossible to find in Doha, Use a private driver, they will always find you.

my 2nd day in Doha - definitely similar to abu dhabi. i read about camels that you met off the road, compared that with luxury of hotels and liked the pyramid shaped sheraton. i agree doha is safe for foreigners. my journey continues :-)

gr8t page man, love it. but few corrections: carrefour is NOT city center. it's part of city centre. u took pic of old marriot hotel, not the recent 1. u took pic of old taxi, not the new 1's. good luck.
