Singapore was what can only be described as an 'unscheduled' stay! After landing to refuel, we took off for home one hour later. My mind was already thinking of Fish 'n Chips, Draught Beers, and the Winter weather that would be there when we touched down in the UK.
Fifteen minutes into the flight, a loud *BANG* could be heard from the front of the plane! My first reaction was to knock back 'large' scotch and think of the best way to change my underpants without anyone noticing!
The captain alerted the passengers that he was going to have to take the plane back to Singapore, but first he must fly out to sea and dump all of the fuel! As you can imagine, I was absolutely mortified!
After dumping the fuel, the plane flew towards the airport where a red haze could be seen from the sky's above - yes, the emergency services were all there prepared for the worst!
Okay, we landed pretty much safely (I'm writing about the tale aren't I!), but it was a pretty scarey ride!
Still, I'm a firm believer that for every bad thing that happens, a good thing will be returned in it's place. So, I managed an unscheduled three night stay in Singapore in a five star hotel. Free food, free beer, what more could you want? It also meant that I had an extended holiday and returned to work a couple of days later than planned!
