"On the border..." Westerly by Pawtuxet

The watery state line

The Pawcatuck River narrows considerably as it approaches the business district of Westerly. The river actually separates the two states of Rhode Island and Connecticut. This pic was taken from the Conn. side looking towards the "border" bridge and Rhode Island. Years ago, before the Interstate Rte. 95 was built, there was a lot more traffic travelling through this town en route to Providence, Newport, Cape Cod from the neighboring Connecticut or New York City. They still enjoy some of that traffic to bolster their tourist business...but it is limited.
As the Pawcatuck River flows through the business district of Westerly, there are revival efforts taking place along a little walkway. You can park off the main street for free, and walk along the river to get to shops and restaurants. The building on the RI side is being renovated with hopes for shops to increase the tourist trade. Summertime brings out the flower boxes and with leaves on the trees, it is a shady respite off the beaten path.

Nice start! I love your work in the Pawtuxet page. This is the real hidden part of RI. I doubt if many in Pawtucket or Pawcatuck know about Pawtuxet.
