  • Gaililee and Sand Hill Cove are next to one another. From Gaililee you can take a ferry to Block Island, visit some great sea food restaurants, or walk this wonderful sandy beach. There are fishing trips which you can book....or buy fresh lobsters and other sea food to take home. Some folks rent a cabin nearby and spend the week. Sand Hill Cove has a state beach with facilities for the kids, showers and snack bar. If you are into the salt and the sand...here is the place to be. Also not far from Narragansett Pier where they do some surfing. So many miles of shoreline...some protected, some not....some rocky, some sandy.....search around and find the one you want.

Things To Do: Ferry out to the island!
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • Here is a pic of some of the fleet that sails to Block Island. There is a high speed ferry in operation now as well. Doesn't seem as romantic or leisurely as the traditional ferry.

Things To Do: Boats and birds
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • It's fun to watch all the various sizes and shapes of boats arriving at the end of the day. Some are pleasure craft, some fishing boats... some at work, some at play... all with seagulls happy to greet them.

Things To Do: Champlin's has its special entertainment
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • While you are sitting there with butter running down your arm... you feel as if the ferry is going to be in the middle of the dining room any minute. Fascinating. Great views.

Things To Do: Everybody is out to make a buck
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • There are plenty of T shirt stands and shops with an assortment of beach wear and various trinkets and soulvenirs. Guess it adds to the flavor of a beach community.

Things To Do: Block Island Ferry depot
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • The ferry to Block Island leaves out of Galilee. It makes a great day trip with a ferry ride that takes about an hour or so. When you come back at the end of the day, you could stop in for a beer in one of the Galilee watering holes. Or... just enjoy passing through and take a few days out on the island. Anyway you do it, you buy your tickets at this little building and sail out the channel... waving, of course, to the folks on the beach.

Things To Do: the local hot spot
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • George's is a restaurant but you might not know that if you get there when the bikers are in town and all the young folks are tipping their bottles on the deck with music blasting and the afternoon sun gleaming off the beach. It's a favorite spot with great views out to the beach and the channel where the Block Island ferry comes and goes. People on the ferry wave and the folks at the bar or beach or sitting on the rocks wave back.
If you land in Galilee, be sure to tip a cold one at George's and check out the bathing beauty crowd.

Directions: One road takes you through Galilee all one way. You can't miss George's at the curve. The beach is straight ahead and you're at the tip of a little peninsula shaped piece of land.

Superior introduction that is both personal and informative. Such interesting places, and the lobster dripping with butter sounds astounding.
