  • Favorite Thing: There is a bridge connecting Pennsylvania to New Jersey. It isn't the major thoroughfare to arrive there...but many people use the bridge to visit both Lambertville on the NJ side, and New Hope on the Penna. side. Starbucks has a prime location at the corner soon as you get over the bridge and enter Main Street at the main intersection.

  • Favorite Thing: This was the excitement of our visit to New Hope. As we sat on the bridge waiting for the mules and boat to come by for a photo, the mules were a bit fussy. The trainer was struggling to make them behave. Suddenly the ropes broke and the mules took off at a healthy trot...with trainer hanging from the side of the saddle, trying to stop them or get on top of the runaway. It was quite a while before he stopped them. Meantime the boat was adrift in the canal...filled with tourists wondering what was next. Eventually, the boatsman got his long pole and pushed toward shore, the mule driver got the critters back where they belonged, and the tourists were delivered safely to their destination. Just a fun little "happening" on a lazy sunny afternoon.

  • Favorite Thing: Every once in a while you hear the clanging and know that the railroad crossing is about to close to car traffic. It's a treat to see the huge engine steaming across the street, so close to the buildings and modern day traffic. It's a beautifully kept train....offering specialty rides for Father's Day,l Easter Bunny tours, Trick or Treat Halloween trains, and such. You could have a child's birthday party on the train or do a private charter.
Everyone seemed excited just to see it coming through.

  • Favorite Thing: Another re-use of an older structure. Here we see a restaurant enjoying the space of an old Victorian homestead. Makes an interesting spot for lunch or dinner.
Who doesn't love sitting on a front porch watching the folks around town go by?

  • Favorite Thing: Many lovely spots to stop for lunch or plan for dinner. I'm not sure the food could equal the garden color here...

  • Favorite Thing: Lots of interesting old buildings have been restored,... and even tho things are kind of touristy and commercialized, I have to be glad that the town still exists and is being taken care of. I think I'd like to go when the crowds are not there.

It's amazing how much transportation history that New Hope has. It's only 1.5 hours from Pen Argyl. I may actually make it down there some time. Thanks, for the info.

great page - we lived near Trenton in 1970-1 and drove up old 32 to New Hope at least once a month. Canal is the same, don't remember the train, the tacky stores never change. Starbucks? thanks for the memories. N.

Great New Hope page. I grew up nearby. Your pictures are a nice walk down memory lane. ~Laura

These quirky little places are really great, your page brings it out well. Pity about the poor souvenirs though, seems a common worldwide problem.
