LAYERS AND LAYERS OF LIFE !! Some people love the city because of all that is going on simultaneously at any hour of the day or night... and any day of the year. There are so many cultures, events, buildings, mini dramas, and yes, piles of litter...it's just SO much information and stimulation coming at you non-stop. Personally I find it exhausting and like to find the quiet spots where I can limit the barage of information. Be sure to look up at the assortment of architecture from every age. Many interesting views...and signage...art ... graphics....culture. Try not to miss a thing. How fast can you go? |
| | Let's Begin at the Beginning.... ELLIS ISLAND is the way so many of our ancestors started to explore the United States...it seems only fitting to begin with a ferry ride to the Ellis Island Museum. It's a striking boat ride with views of the Statue of Liberty, the skyline of the city as well as wonderful views of the Ellis Island buildings. The museum has appeal for almost everyone. |
| | The Many Faces of Central Park Designed by Frederick Law Olmstead at the turn of the century, Central Park is over 800 acres of marvelous natural space amidst the hustle and bustle of the city. There are so many features of the park to enjoy...don't miss seeing as much as possible. New Yorkers love to stroll on Sunday...but joggers, lovers, bicyclists and botanists are equally pleased with the winding roads and trails...open lawns, turtle ponds, and surprising vistas at every turn. Gosia was surprised to find the Polish King's statue here.. near Turtle Pond, with many people stopping to enjoy the majestic statue.

hunterV Sun Sep 20, 2009 18:25 UTC Hi, Janet! I like your story and pictures! Thanx! ><><>< | icunme Tue Sep 15, 2009 11:32 UTC Thank you, Janet - Ellis Island is such a personal experience for every person - I was in tears most of the time there. The courage - spirit - my 3 yr old aunt, Maria, died on the ship to America with my grandmother. | tiabunna Mon Feb 16, 2009 11:30 UTC I've always been unsure how I'd react to New York, large cities aren't usually my thing - but your page has made it sound much less threatening to a country boy! I quite enjoyed Central Park and the idea of the water taxis. | travelfrosch Tue Dec 2, 2008 02:17 UTC I did not know that about the CRRNJ station. As for people watching, consider also Grand Central Station. That can be lots of fun, especially on a rainy day. I hope you can enjoy lunch in Greenpoint! 8) Cheers, Mark |
