Restaurant Name: Woodman's of Essex

"Best Seafood in America" is how they bill themselves. They don't stand on ceremony...nothing fancy, certainly 'salty'. This is where you go for your fresh lobster, great chowder, steamers, and by the way.... their french fries and onion rings are light, crispy, and cooked in fresh oil. None of that nasty old grease stuff at Woodman's. The dining room is very basic. You can have a drink from the bar. Order your food at the counter...pick up when your number is called. This is the way to eat fresh seafood as far as I'm concerned. Somehow it always tastes better this way.

Favorite Dish: Woodman's will also do catering or ship a Clambake to you....corporate gifts.... candlelight dinner at home!

River dining in Essex*
I was alone one late afternoon looking for lunch. A local Rockport shopkeeper had recommended this restaurant on the main street in Essex. I decided to try it and was absolutely delighted. Great views...outside deck when it's warmer...and the food, service, quality, and cleanliness were without fault. Highly recommended for lunch or dinner.
Note:
wrap-around deck is heated on cool days and nights
Fine wines and locally microbrewed beers are specialties
