The AMBER collections...

I really enjoyed taking this photo. You should enlarge it to see my humor. The blonde woman is dilligently cleaning her display case and staying busy as she hopes for business, while the couple in the next booth couldn't care any less if anyone ever came by to purchase their amber. ha ha ha ...sunny days can do that to you.
The amber is up to the brim and overflowing all over Gdansk. There are so many versions of necklaces and earrings, it is impossible to look at all of them. The quality of the "street" jewelry is of course not terribly good. It's OK, but if you want to find some really well designed amber jewelry, step into one of the shops with the better grade of craftsmanship. You are sure to find the color, size and shape you are looking for. Prices are still about 1/3 less than you would spend outside the country.

Find the craftsman who made it...

We were surprised and delighted to find this woman amongst all the amber jewelry along the cobblestoned street. Her handiwork is quilting, which is not at all popular in Poland. It's more of an American craft. However she is making interesting lingerie bags, quilts, handbags and other items...selling them in specialty shops all over the country. Her designs were original and her colors interestingly combined. I found a few items for gifts here and we enjoyed a long discussion of quilting in the process.
