Old Town...a work of art

Old Town Square
There is no other city in the world that compares to Old Town Warsaw and all that it represents. To know its history and enjoy its beauty is a very moving experience. Warsaw has progressed through various stages of grandeur, devastation, rebuilding, and struggling with its come back. I've included photos of my visit behind the Iron Curtain in the 70's as well as my 3 subsequent trips. Each time I go there I am taken by the amazing fact that this Old Town has been rebuilt from ashes....and is so magnificent as it is today. And that is the Polish spirit and character. They simply don't give up.

There are many other sights around Warsaw which I got to explore on my latest visit (2006). Check out my new Tips for:
WILANOW PALACE
MANY WONDERFUL RESTAURANTS
TOMB OF THE UNKNOWN SOLDIER
ROYAL PALACE
MALL SHOPPING AT THE OUTSKIRTS OF THE CITY
Stalin, Roosevelt and Churchill

August 1 ~ Warsaw Uprising Museum

A "must see" ... very POWERFUL museum , created with modern technology and interactive design.

Cobblestone streets

There are a number of charming little cobblestone streets radiating out from the square. It is a combination of shops, markets, churches and apartments along the way.
On our 2nd trip we stayed in the Old Town Apartments advertised on this site... and walked to shops and restaurants. It was like coming back home when we returned from the south of Poland after a week of travelling.

Excellent page. We are so lucky the Europeans decided to rebuild the old historic buildings to exact detail after the war. Looks a nice city to visit.

Another grand tour - Mme Curie detail an eye-opener - I read ovier a few times your impressions having been there during Soviet domination and after and chills ran through me. VT does not get better than this!

Beautiful page blending old ad new. Wonder if I'll ever make it to this beautiful city? I did in 2008, but Wilanow gardens were being dug for archaeological reasons.
