Things To Do: Photograph the sky ... over and over and over
  • Tip Rating:
  • Will we ever be able to capture the light of New Mexico's sky? I doubt it. It's pretty much like trying to capture the crashing surf of the northeast's coastline or the brilliance of the sun in autumn leaves. In Abuquerque and the Turquoise Trail... the skies are bigger than big and the blues are positively amazing. There is just no way to describe it.....ya gotta go there and see it for yourself. Hope you do.

Things To Do: Discover the authentic little towns
  • Tip Rating:
  • I say authentic because so much of what I see when I travel is commercialized versions of what the place used to be. Not so in all the little towns along the turquoise trail. This is the real old west....some of it abandoned...some of it hoping the revival will take hold. All of it beautifully silhouetted against all that gorgeous blue sky. Even the clouds are great.

Things To Do: Along the Turquoise Trail
  • Tip Rating:
  • So many interesting sights along the road to Santa Fe. You can imagine a little story to go with each photo.... old abandoned buildings, remnants of lives lived out in the big country.

Things To Do: Wood sidewalks, dirt roads...
  • Tip Rating:
  • This little town between Albuquerque and Santa Fe was just a perfect little western town. The light of the skies in New Mexico is unbelievably beautiful. Highly recommend that you get out away from the main cities and drive through these little places with names you can't remember...but atmosphere you won't forget.

Things To Do: The Inn at the end of the Trail
  • Tip Rating:
  • In Santa Fe you see more of the adobe architecture.
I couldn't resist this shot. Somehow the red light and the adobe building seemed an unlikely combination yet an interesting study for a photo.

We drove the length of NM one winter, then on into Colorado - beautiful! Great memories, Taos in the snow, driving towards Santa Fe at night, the buildings all lined with luminaries. I must get back some time. leyle

Albequerque and Santa Fe are a treat! You've captured the flavor well with your tips. A favorite part of the US for me!

Beautiful photos and lots of great memories on this page. I spent a year in New Mexico when I was in my early 20s. Visited every county in the state. My photos from then are in color slides - and a bit outdated. Maybe someday I'll get them scanned for VT.
