  • Favorite Thing: Good friends have a cabin right on the lake with a dock out in front. There is an assortment of boats and jet skis....dogs, kids, a few lobsters....and life is sweet.
What a lake it is! Enormous...clean...and FUN. There are a couple of towns which front on the lake like Meredith and The Weirs. We stay away from the crowds...just sun, water, and good friends. Here is Joe, wishing he had worked out more during the year. :-)
There is always a crew getting ready to take off to go water skiing at Lake Winnepesaukee.

General Tips: Ye olde covered bridge
  • Tip Rating:
  • Favorite Thing: This is the Squam River Bridge. Not only is it wonderful for pictures .. lots of ice fishermen around in the winter... but also filled with winter storage boats and docks waiting for the summer crowd. This little spot could use up all your photo film for a weekend. It's picturesque in all directions. There were little cottages grouped together on one side of the lake. The kind of place to run away to when you are exhausted and want some beautiful quiet place to be peaceful.
We found a couple of covered bridges as we drove around Ashland, Meredith and the surrounding area. The Smith Bridge was rebuilt but in the old style....they are charming, unique and very photographable. I love the sound of the tires going through the bridge while the rumbling on wooden planks echoes inside the roof.

  • Favorite Thing: We stopped in at the lake house while visiting my son's ski vacation house. Couldn't resist checking in at the little cottage on Lake Winnepesaukee where the kids had so many wonderful times in the sun with old and good friends. Think all those memories were going through Christopher's head as he looked out at the frozen lake for the first time since he was about 16 yrs. old.

General Tips: Keep your eye open for WILD TURKEYS !!

  • Favorite Thing: I don't mean crazy men....I mean live turkeys. You may not see them very well unless you enlarge this pic, but there were about a dozen young ones feeding by the side of the road. Startled all of us. they are so close to the ground cover, they can be difficult to spot.
It's wonderful to see wildlife able to survive along the quiet roadways.

Hi Janet - Really enjoyed your pages on the Shaker Village. We visited the Hancock Shaker Village on the New England trip. It was fascinating! Will hopefully get those pics up soon.

So sweet here - the lake, the museum of houses, the charming info center, castel/mansion - just really good Americana! Lovely tour with such a nice feel. You did it again! Ciao bella, <(•¿•)>

Hey Davy Crockett- pardon my ignorance, but what is a whirly-gig? I could quite happily live in that Castle in the Clouds . Saw a doco recently on Shakers and their beautiful chairs. Nice page & pics.

That 'Castle in the Clouds' is certainly impressive, interesting that it's contemporary to our Iandra. What a marvellous setting for it too.
