One of these days you simply MUST see Waterfires in RI..... or maybe in ASIA!!!
ANOTHER OPPORTUNITY HAS PRESENTED ITSELF...SON CHRISTOPHER WILL BE IN SAVANNAH W/ HIS WIFE ON BUSINESS FOR SEVERAL WEEKS - SO WHY NOT TAKE THE OPPORTUNITY TO VISIT AND SEE WHAT'S SHAKIN IN THAT INTRIGUEING LITTLE DISTRICT?
JUST FINISHED A TERRIFIC BOOK ABOUT NATHANIAL GREENE BY GERALD CARBONE..,CIVIL WAR HERO BURIED IN SAVANNAH (BORN IN RHODE ISLAND). THERE IS A SQUARE NAMED FOR HIM IN SAVANNAH HISTORIC DISTRICT. HE WAS WASHINGTON'S "GO TO" GUY. GIVE THE BOOK A TRY. YOU'LL LEARN A LOT.
HOPE YOU'LL CHECK BACK AROUND THE END OF APRIL TO SEE MY LATEST UPDATES ON THE SAVANNAH GETAWAY.
We hit our 49th wedding anniversary this week and decided to go off to Newport to check out the activity and have dinner in a wonderful old Inn. In fact, it's the oldest inn in the U. S. It is the White Horse Tavern. Check it out on my Newport page.
Newport has lots to offer so I add to my pages each time I go and try to give you as many options as I can photograph.
The architecture is glorious from the little 1600's cottages to the grandness of the The Breakers...mansions of amazement.
Along Rte 4 between Concord and Portsmouth... there is a stretch of road with more than 500 antique dealers stretched out along the roadways of Northwood, Lee, Epsom and Chichester.
You can find some really good eateries along the way to stop, rest, and refuel.... and enjoy an afternoon of seeking treasures.
We stayed in Manchester, which is a sweet town, but hopping up to the Rte. 4 "strip" is an easy jaunt. A good day trip from several towns in the area... Concord, Keene, Salem, Nashua, Dover...
On this trip I stayed in an old farmhouse which is now a B&B. It was perfect because I wanted to be quiet and do some writing. Of course there was time to wander, stare out to sea, and eat in a couple of favorite restaurants. OK... and I confess.... I squeezed in a little bit of shopping as well. :-)
Everyone should escape for a couple of days all by themselves around the time of their birthday. I highly recommend it....and so prefer it over a sticky sweet cake and people singing happy birthday off key. Well, they mean well, but then it's time for me to GET OUT OF TOWN>
========
ANOTHER TRIP BACK TO POLAND. I ARRANGED FOR 2 SISTERS W/ GRANDPARENTS FROM THE SAME VILLAGE AS MINE, TO COME ALONG. DEAR GOSIA JOINED US AND I GOT TO MEET WLADEK! ALSO HOOKED UP WITH MATCRAZY1 AND MRS. MATCRAZY :-)
ZAKOPANE..SEARCH FOR AN ARTIST This page is a bit quirky but the artists in the crowd will enjoy it, I think.
SPENT SEVERAL DAYS IN GRANDFATHER'S VILLAGE....
CMOLAS AND ZAREMBKI
OUR CENTER OF OPERATIONS WAS IN KOLBUSZOWA where we stayed in the glorious Skansen Village
Out into the hinterlands to visit grandfather's church in its newest location POREBY DYMARSKI
BACK TO KRAKOW ~ FOR THE MAGNIFICENT CORPUS CHRISTI CELEBRATION
This link to POLAND will guide you to pages on Poland....Warsaw, Krakow, Sandomierz, Gdansk, Kolbuszowa, Cmolas, Rzeszow, Czestochowa, and beyond.....
Here is my "Australia". She's my very special side kick...with a wonderful story to tell.
Hope you will check my Travelogue to learn the story of a ~"Australia"~ the heroine of the story
UPDATE!!***!!
Aussie's story was published in a book entitled "Disposable Dogs" by Steve Swanbeck. She's a star!!:-)
UPDATE 2008
A call from the author of "Disposable Dogs" informed me he's done another printing of this book...which has been his best selling book to date! Must be because of my Aussie's story.... wink, wink
The cottage is a sweet little spot located at the rear of our property. Warm sunshine pours through the french glass doors at the back of the kitchen and floods the sunshine yellow rooms with light. It's very popular with business people who are in RI for a few months, people who are transferring to RI and need interim housing, as well as people who are from other states or countries and want to visit RI friends and family for a month or two in the summer or over holidays. Everyone seems to want to visit Newport while they are here.
Totally renovated a couple of years ago, we outfitted it completely with IKEA closets, lighting, and furniture. We do short term rental by the month.
In case you plan to travel this way, take a look at our little Cottage and if we have an opening, VT folks are always welcome.
More pics available on my Pawtuxet page...including a studio apartment (short term)

HI NICE TRIPS
Thanks for the birthday greeting and ideas Janet! I will do something for myself but haven't decided what yet.
Happy Birthday to you, joyeux anniversaire!!! Got some post on Brittany and Quimper !!!
Hi Janet, belated birthday wishes from Ireland.
I have been so busy preparing my first art exhibition in Paris and I’ve managed to miss your birthday. However it’s never to late to wish you health, happiness and many exciting travel destinations.
Svetlana Bellon
Janet, wish you all the bestfor your belated b-day!
Belated birthday greetings. I've not been on VT lately. Recuperating from two different operations. Hope your day was just fantastic, Janet.
Happy Happy Birthday Janet! I hope you had a wonderful day! :-)
Too late to wish you happy birthday (sorry for the delay) but I can still send you my best wishes of many happy returns of the day. All the best and happy travels, also to Poland!
Did you have a lovely birthday? Best wishes, a little late, from a traveling camel, currently in beautiful New Zealand.
