The City where many says that close to its location,the mother of humanity "Eva" Had landed to Earth from Heaven for the first time. Also some belive that she "Eva" was buried here in a known cemetry location to the "north east of old town". This is why some belive that Jeddah has its name in Arabic "Jeddah" or "Jadddahh" means "THE GRAND MOTHER". It was a location for an old Semmatic tribe called Thamoud 3000 BC. From the same Semmatic root, the Arab came. Also from the roots'language,the word "Europe" came from, at which "Europe" the "European Contenent is called by now" which means: "Arroup":(name of a semmatic "Syrian Queen".
For sure "Jeddah" is the biggest city on the Red Sea. The City is for trade, industry and Fishing was and still have main Air and Sea ports in the Arabian Penninsula in consideration to inhabitants living and being served by the city's services.
Even if it is very humid in summer, winter,spring and fall are with exellent climate. Even if it is very humid very hot in summer you still get the feelings that you are in a city where any kind of civilization or modernization will reach there earlier than any part of the Arabian penninsula, becaause the word Jeddah also means (AL Jedddahhh) or (Al Jodddahhh" means "The New" "the modernity" in English. It is "Los Angeles" of saudi where every body wants to move to.
It had been Said in the past that Jeddah is "Um rakha & Um shida" means that Jeddah is the mother of wealth and poverty. When alot of ships come to jeddah's sea port it is "Alrakha" which means all needs are avaliable and less expensive. When ships delay in coming to jeddah's sea port it is "al Shida" means scarcity of gods and high prices. From that you can see how important jeddah was and still for the needs of food and other supplies to internal towns and cities of Arabia.
Until 1930, Jeddah,the land of ancestors as I consider,used to suffer from drinking water shortage.
At that time the population of the city could have been bigger if water was avaliable. In old Jeddah and in most old Houses a small well should be dug in the basement to use sea water in washing and cleaning. At the top of all old houses their should be a big clean storage to trap water of the rain when it comes only 3 or 4 times a year. Disselination of sea water solved the problem of water. After that numbers of houses increased and immigrants from Saudi and the world start to come. Now the City is 200 times as big as it was in 1940.
Old Houses were very unique. Stones were brought from big rocks of the sea for constructions. Stones were very strong but has the advantage of passing the air through to reduce the temprature inside rooms. Windows were very big and constucted like external porch at which wood frames and wood carving cover them from all sides. This shape gives an advantage of sitting or sleeping in an area of air circulation without beeing seen from outside."Look to pictures of external old buildings included in my page"
Even If my ancestors should have been immigrants to Jeddah on day in last few centuries. And even if many residents in jeddah are calling themselves "Jeddians" like "texan" or New Yorkan" or "Londoners",,,I do not define or agree that every person is a true "jeddian". They should have the culture the accent, and the tradition. Jeddian indvidual should have few but respcted friends, smooth arabic, soft Arabic,dress white cloth,and cares about others if he/she wants and can with out letting them know that he is. When telling about disadvantages you can add to jeddians similar disadvantages of any average person living in this world adding that Jeddians should belive in "indvidualism" even if he/she lives with thousands. For sure that doesn't mean being isolated or self centered but prefering to address everything indvidualy.
During last few centuries, nonsense and poverty existed in Arabia. Jeddah As a biggest port was leading in having first Air port and wireless communication to other parts of the world. The city is where diploamtes, councils lived long years in the past and stil living. It is a destination for almost every Moslem wants to preform "Hajj" to Mecca's holy Mosque "the Islamic pilgrammige" . The City grew as an International City. Tolerance to other cultures is respected as privacies inside houses and out side if it doesnt argue with the Islamic rules. Western Culture, which is internationally considered the one with slightly more freedom in personal actions, can be accepted up to certain level provided that decency is maintained. For sure, not every visitor will feel that Alchol and Ham,bacon are necessities for living " because they are not allowed to import,to procuce, to use ,to buy or to sell", but also a replacement is available. We have what we call non alcholic Saudi Champigne, non alcholic beer,sparkling water, and alot of cold meat.

Because
In Islamic Culture buiding Statue imitating the apperance of famous people is forbbiden. Since the city has big roads and big costal areas the municipilaty invited many artists from all over the world and gave them spaces in jeddah streets and squares to start doing works of art,,, pieces of arts "sclptures". They are made of colored wood craving, metal craving, steel and gypsium. So now in jeddah we have 1000 piece of sclptures in an open museum of art. For example there are 1- square of the biggest bycicle in the world 2- square of crash cars 3- square of engineering tools 3-square of earth planet 4-square of the sun group of planets 5- horiscopes land marks
6- square of airplanes.......... ext when you are in Jeddah please enjoy seeing all of sclptures. I suggest that if you may wish to start by going to a street full of new sclptures. It is the street at which among sclptures exist at is the "Flying carpet sclpture" near Sheraton Movin-Pick, and Hilton.
Why Jeddah is called "The Red Sea Bride" or "Mermaid of The Red Sea"?
Because jeddah has 3 Bays " smal gulf" we call it "Sharm" of water connecting the land with the Sea. Jeddah is most beautiful Red Sea's creature just like the mermaid. Mermaid considers legeenderay the most beautiful animal in the sea . Jeddah has similar beauty of Cartoonist Sea Mermaids which is considered legenderary the most beautiful sea animal. Why red sea is called so?. because it has a long red plants where some time gets very tall above the surface of water.
Why jeddah is called"The Gate to The Two Holy Mosques"?
Becaus Jeddah works as an exuctive city for Islam's two holliest Cities "Mecca" and "Madina". Mecca is where God insturcted Messenger Ibraham to build for people's worshiping God "The Holy House of God" in earth "Bait Allah Alhram". The name indicates how much worship and pryers to God are very acceptaple at "Mecca" . "Madina" is the Town of "Messenger from God to every body" "Mohamad Peace Be Upon Him".
Why I call Jeddah the "Venice of Arabia"?
because the designs of old buildings and the language of the people have been inspired by the east and the west. We got ideas in buildings;and few words from the indians the chinese ,the Turkish , and the Italians. Besides jedda has a beautiful designs engagement with sea water.
