UPDATE: 4TH APRIL
It was a 3 hr drive NE to Cedar City, Utah, where we based ourelves for the next three nights to explore.
After checking in to our Super 7 Motel, we took off to find somewhere nice to eat. Not easy in a town that only serves fried mulch. We ended up at a Sizzler and helped ourselves to the salad bar and some OK fish.
Zion Park was about 62 miles drive through stunning red rock canyons. We drove through a 1 mile tunnel and explored a bit before taking the free shuttle bus up the main route. There were shear red cliffs, many with climbers on them. Most of the climbs here take 2 days so you can guess how high they are. The scenery here is really beautiful. It was only spoiled by some preppy college boys who insisted on talking to us on the pros of Bush sending in his troops to Afghanistan.
That night we settled for a pizza before calling it a night.
On the Saturday, we headed in the opposite direction to Bryce Canyon. On the way we drove through the snow coverred Dixie Forest which was stunning in itself.A quick stop for breakfast before enterring the park. Bryce canyon is quite different to Zion. Where Zion you were enclosed by shear cliffs, Bryce is a ridge which you drive along, which has beautiful red rock formations. There is one place called Sunset Point frm which you can see the Amphitheatre, a collection of wonderful rocks which seems to go on for ever. Spectacular!
It was a long drive back and by the time we arrived it was back to Sizzler for a repeat meal before hitting the sack.
