The Dolomites are an incredible limestone mountain range in the Alps of northern Italy. This area is very popular with skiers in the winter and hikers and climbers in the summer. It's also a very picturesque area to just do a road trip. If you don't have access to a car, these mountains are not really accessible. I traveled with my brother from Stuttgart, Germany to Bolzano by train. From here there was really no public transport into the mountains, so we rented a car in town to make our 3 day excursion to Corvara. Our friends in Stuttgart come here for rock climbing and highly recommended it. This quaint little town is a good base from which to experience this region. In the pic you see a view of Rosengarten from a road leading out of Bolzano's vineyard region and into the mountains.

How glorious! I am leaving Australia for Spain (I think!) in late April 2013... and hoping to trek the full length of the Haute Route Pyrenees in late June into July... but there is so many OTHER wonderful places to trek and explore in these regions in the warmer weather... will I have enough time to do them all before the weather turns??!! Maybe I should start somewhere more northern and work my way down to spain for the start of winter... oh hell is travel choices :-D
Beautiful photos of this very pretty area! You brought back nice memories for me, thanks!
Any tips for accommodation in Bolzano? Heading there next week and looking for accommodation.
Magnificent photos of a magnificent area!
Trying to plan my trip to the Dolomites in May. Thank you for the beautiful pics.
I dont think I would EVER be able to do this hike myself so thank you very much for these beautiful pictures of such wonderful views :-)
I was in Bolzano in 1960 and nearly delivered a baby. There was no Brenner Pass Bridge then and it was a rough trip.
Nice page. HAPPY birthday.. greetings from mountains
