"Windy city here we come!!" Chicago by chagi1

Our first trip of this year was to Chicago. We have both visited the city before and we keep going back, there is so much to see and do in Chicago, and it's a nearby escape from Windsor Ontario.
We drove to Chicago which is about 500km from Windsor. My husband and I love our car rides, we usually talk about everything and anything, pop in a great CD and just enjoy each others company and the passing scenery. Sure we could have flown, there are actually some great deals from Detroit to Chicago, but we enjoy the whole exploring process of travel. Driving allows us to see so much more, stop when we feel like it and detour as needed.
One piece of equipment that I would definitely recommend to those of you that love driving to your destinations is a GPS system. AMAZING!!! Not only did it help us find our hotel with great ease, once in Chicago we were able to avoid the toll roads, I love that feature!!! I really don't know how we managed without our "Tom tom" prior to their invention!! As my husband stated... before tomtom we did more arguing... thank the Lord for GPS!

Before heading to Chicago I did most of my research on VT, I have to say a great full thank you to fellow VTer "dabs" who's mega Chicago page helped me do the majority of my trip planning!
There is so much to do and see in Chicago, we really wanted to limit our expenses and we wanted a trip that was exciting and relaxing so we also wanted to limit our activities to absolute must see.
If you are planning a trip to Chicago and expenses are not an issue, there are so many museums, aquarium and theaters that one could visit, really the possibilities are endless!

Hancock building

- Hancock Signature lounge watching the sunset (a must!!)
- Architecture river tour by the architecture foundation
- Michigan avenue (walking, shopping, architecture)
- Cheese cake at cheesecake factory (I wouldn't recommend the food, but cheese cake is great!)
- All the Cuisine variety the city offers

• In a nutshell:A great escape for a long weekend!
