American Samoa was for me an extremely interesting place to visit when included with a trip to the Independant State of Samoa to the west. America reached agreement with several of the islands in the early 1900's and they have fallen under the control of the USA ever since. The resulting years have seen tremendous cultural change on these islands with many aspects of traditional life now non-existant. Yes disappointingly two of the first things you'll see when you drive out of the airport at Pago Pago (pronounced Pango Pango with the "a"s being pronounced softly), are Pizza Hut and KFC. However, despite the obvious cultural differences there is still that easy going friendly Samoan attitude which is never too far away! |

Though I loved Samoa I had to go back home to the states | CoAir13 Fri Aug 4, 2006 12:37 UTC I work with a guy from Pago Pago...he often complains about the natural beauty being overrun! Great tips and pics!! | Bwana_Brown Tue Jul 4, 2006 15:24 UTC Yes indeed, this does sound like a little bit of paradise where you can just chill out and enjoy the ocean and the fantastic scenery!
