Georgia

Parlaiment Building
Georgia is a great country for the traveller to visit! Though the country is poor, changes have occurred in recent years which suggest the country may be on the long road to economic recovery. Spend some time going through my pages here on VT on Georgia and you will not be disappointed at what a very rich, country it is, despite it's troubles.
Here is the Parliament building which is flying the old flag of Georgia. A new one was taken in 2004 (see picture below).
The Flag of Georgia
Georgia is such a diverse country. It has the Black Sea on one side, desert on the other, Mountains to the north, Lush forest in the centre. You name the terrain and Georgia has it. Differing ethnic groups as well which unfortunately has led to conflict at times. Despite this the people are incredible. I experienced some incredible acts of hospitality- well beyond the normal. Like the story of the Taxi driver in Batumi. We were waiting for a bus for maybe 20 minutes in the pouring rain, that was never going to show. A taxi pulled up trying to get a lift from us, but he could see we were drenched and completely lost. After about 10 minutes of trying to communicate we reluctantly agreed to get in the taxi and let him take us to- well we had no idea where to! He drove for about 10 minutes then we arrived at a bus station. He showed us to the right bus and made sure we got on. The taxi driver then told the bus driver where we had to get off. We climbed on board the bus and paid our fare. I turned around to give the taxi driver some money for the lift as well as his kindness but he was already in his taxi smiling and waving at us as he sped off. This was but one act of the amazing hospitality of the Georgians. They take hospitality a step further.
Another great aspect to Georgia is it's food! If I could summise the varied nature of the food, I 'd say "catering for all tastes".
You could easily spend 2-3 months here travelling around. I spent 1 month and had a great time and would love to go back some time!

I read about your Georgian experience, particularly searching for hints to the current conflict with Russia. I was not very lucky to find something very relevant but I found a nicely made review about the country as a whole. My congrats!
