When I visited here in 1994, tourists where few . The city was still quite run down, and their were practically no accommodation options, (we stayed with a local woman we met at the train station), and little in the way of tourist "comforts". It was still quite a picturesque place then.
I arrived incredibly the day after James Brown played a concert in the main square! Lately though it has been thoroughly restored to the delight of increasing number of tourists.

Historically, Brasov has always played an important role in Europe being the capital of the rich and fertile Transylvannia area.

The Bullet ridden Buiding pictured is a remnant of the fall of the Ceausescu regime and subsequent battle for power. Don't know if it still looks that way!
Nowadays, you can spend some quality time walking around the streets that surround the old Townhall, all the way to the city walls. When you're done exploring, stop for a treat in one of the many nice cafés in the city square.
