Angkor Wat is the most important monument of the southeast Asian Khmer Empire. It is so imressive in size and clearly is the largest sacred temple in the world. It was built at the beginning of the 12th century. There are some amazingly intricate and ornamental detail to the building. As you can see from my pictures it's beauty is trully unique. |
| Local Kid near Angkor Wat-Cambodia |
| | Around Angkor Wat there are many temples which have been taken over by the jungle. Although smaller, they are still fascinating to visit, and should be a part of your trip here. The kid in this photo kept wanting to hit me, needless to say he did. I seem to have that effect on children! Funny thing was he wasnt even after any money or selling anything, just a cute kid. |
| From the Elephant Terrace-Angkor Thom-Cambodia |
| | The Elephant Terrace is held up by a wall 300 metres long with sculptures of elephants in profile view. One of the stairways to the terrace is decorated with three-headed elephants, whose trunks act as pillars - an art object as well as a structural member. |

Sininen Tue Dec 4, 2007 11:44 UTC I loved Cambodia so browsing your page was a lot fo fun. I agree with you about re-building the temples - disgrace! | GenuinelyCurious Mon Oct 8, 2007 07:37 UTC Great tip on temple fatigue. It would be a pity not to really enjoy it and it all can be a bit overwhelming, but Angkor and Banteay Srei still stand out as incredible destinations. |
