However, the city was also home to the romantic poet Lord Byron; you can visit his ancestral home at Newstead Abbey. D. H. Lawrence, author of Sons and Lovers and Lady Chatterley's Lover, was born in a tiny miner's cottage in Eastwood, which he later immortalized in his writings. |

The bottom photo in your introduaction is the construction site of the Inland Revenue building, viewed from the Castle grounds. It was completed in 1994 and is a very modern-style building. | sue_stone Sat Dec 18, 2004 18:31 UTC
