| Belltower of the Echmiadzin Cathedral |
No visit to Armenia is trully complete without visiting the Holy See of Echmiadzin. It is the centre of the Armenian Church. The main Cathedral here was built in 480 and is located in a walled compound with gardens and various structures. It is a beautiful place, with the main Cathedral being ornate inside and out. There is also a small museum at the rear of the Cathedral, which houses some remarkable pieces. The Geghard (Spear Head) used to pierce Christ's body is housed in the museum, and it isnt even locked away, all visitors can have a look at it for themselves. Echmiadzin is only a short trip half an hour trip at most from Yerevan and can easily be seen in day trip. |
