"Dili" a Dili Travel Page by Groverdean

I couldn't decide which photo to put as my main photo on this page, after all Dili is not the most aesthetically pleasing capital city you are likely to come across. Since the near total destruction of 1999, building progress has been slow and there are still alot of decaying building shells waiting for the chance to be injected with life again.
Therefore in an effort not to paint Dili as a depressing place (which it is by no means), I decided to put a picture of a commandingly restored building. This building summises all that is wrong with East Timor today- The Government Building.

Dili is hot. Uncomfortabley hot and humid, and malaria infected mosquitos lurk here.
The city is a bussling, busy place, full of East Timorese trying to make something of their lives, and full of foreign workers representing all types of organisations, especially the UN.
An important aspect to navigating the city, is that streets aren't sign posted. When you are making your way around Dili, it is more a case of 2 blocks up to the right then 1 block left and the place with the big blue sign. However, the main commerical district is very small and therefore very easy to navigate around. If not sure just get in a taxi and for 1USD you'll end up where you want.
