| Government Building Flying the Tajikistan Flag |
Dushanbe is a relatively new city having only been built about 80 years ago. As such it has been built in the typical Soviet Block style. It does have some nice tree lined wide streets and has the feeling of plenty of space ,but otherwise some parts are quite ordinary. I did however find the place not to be half as bad as what I expected. Although, going out at night was not the thing to do, the only time I did I had to make my way very quickly through the non lit back streets. Subsequent to my visit I have read that the capital is becoming more and more safe at night time ever year. |

Trekki Sat Sep 2, 2006 06:24 UTC It is interesting, how the -stans have arranged the founders among themsleves - Timur for Uzbekistan and Somoni for Tajikistan. I did not like this city, and well, the travel agent is more of a rip-off company by now... | sachara Thu Feb 17, 2005 21:12 UTC Great to see you have a Dushanbe page ! There were plans that Dushanbe would become the twin town of my home town Emmen. I visited only Pendjikent in Tajikstan. | codrutz Tue Jan 11, 2005 12:22 UTC Don't mind, but just this about the tadjik capital? | sue_stone Thu Dec 2, 2004 21:24 UTC how do you remember all this stuff??!! |
