  • Although this is a restaurant, it is in such a beautiful setting that you just can't miss at least having a look whilst in Ubud. You have the choice of sitting down at a table or using the cushions on the floor and table to the side of the pond as we did. The food is very good.
Don't hesitate to stop in for an afternoon cup of coffee to gaze out on the amazingly landscaped pond and garden.
The website provides alot of information.

  • No trip to Ubud is complete without a visit to the Sacred Monkey Forest. But a word of warning-hold on to your bananas! Anything that isn't strapped down, believe me they'll take it and you'll never see them coming.
Inside the Forest grounds the Balinese Macaques roam free and are protected. You can buy bananas to feed them at the entrance. There are 3 important temples in the Forest. Definitely worth a visit and they'll make you laugh.

  • The best thing about taking a Balinese Cooking Class (apart from the eating), is learning to appreciate the amount of effort that goes into preparing Balinese Cuisine. The ingredients must always be fresh, and in exact quantities for each dish which is why you never see Balinese restaurants outside of Bali. It is just to difficult, and that is why you must always prebook for any traditional Balinese food.
There are various cooking schools in Ubud. As I was staying at Ketut's Place (see accommodation tips), we decided to do the one he offered as it was more personal, just 3 people did it with us. He took us off to a local market (not the main Ubud one with everyone trying to sell you something) and explained the ingredients to us on sale throughout the market. When we came back, Ketut's wife Wayan went through how to make and prepare various dishes. She'd already measured out the quantities before hand. It wasnt particularly hands on, however, at the end of the 3 hours we did get to enjoy the fantastic food. Great value for about 100,000 Rupiah each, but if there is a few I think you may be able to get this price down easily.

    Things To Do: Gunung Kawi

  • Gunung Kawi consists on 10 rock cut shrines, in imitation of actual statues. They are cut into the sheer cliff face at the bottom of a lush valley, set amongst paddy fields. The walk is a steep, stone stairway, and to do this in the middle of the day will leave you bathed in sweat!
However, the scenery here is great and if visiting Ubud make sure you make the effort to come here.
The entrance fee is 3100 Rupiah, and wear your sarong!

  • No one knows how it got the name the Elephant cave, as there have never been any elephants on Bali. The nearby river was once known as the Elephant river.
The caves origins are unknown. Probably dating to the 11th century. The face at the cave entrance is that of a demon. The cave itself I found quite claustrophobic! Not anything of note to see inside.
As usual admission is 3100 Rupiah, don't forget your sarong (again)!
