silvia-m.b's new Guinea-Bissau Page

by silvia-m.b - last update: Sep 11, 2002

This has been my last BIG trip. Guinea Bissau has been also my first destination in Africa. I've never been in Africa before. The official name of this country in portuguese language is: Républica da Guiné-Bissau.
Is located in the west, between Senegal (north), Guinea (east and south) & the Atlantic Ocean to the west. Has a total of 36.125 km2 and around 2.000.000 inhabitants (maybe more ;-P).
It's great because also includes the wonderful Bijagós archipelagos and other islands. The capital? Easy! Bissau, of course...
Visit Geba and Corubal stuaries. The weather is completely tropical! Yeah! I need some hot temperature due that this winter in Barcelona has been specially cold! :-O
To eat? Of course, fish! I love it! And Bissau is the paradise for that kind of food!
Ummm!

What I've done before this trip??? Before to go to Guinea-Bissau I took some vaccines (a lot!): against typhus was called "Vivotif Berna". There was 3 capsules that I needed preserve inside my refrigerator. Each capsule need be taken 1 hour before a lunch. First one: first day (for instance, monday), the second (wednesday) and the last (friday). This capsules protect between
50-80% and the vaccine's duration is: 3-5 years. You can't take this oral vaccine if you believe that you can be pregnancy. (Me not! ;-P I'm a good girl)
Against yellow fever duration: 10 years. Price: 15.33 €
Against hepatitis A (duration: 10 years) + B (duration: undefined) were 2 dosis before travel and 1 after.
1 week before travel I'll take Lariam. Then during the travel and also after.
In the picture you can see me dancing a typical Guinea-Bissau dance with the typical "skirt" around my body. Was great...rythm!

I'm not crazy about fishing, but that's quite a trophy in your photo! No, I'd carefully arrange my towel and settle nicely in the sand to enjoy that pretty beach!Regards from Texas...
