Malinalco means: "Where the Goddess Malinalxochitl is adored¨.
Around Estado de Mexico, there were built several temples and buildings for military porpouses in the ancient times of the Mexicas. Malinalco is one of them.
Malinalco is a small Arqueological zone located in a high mount, offering a beautiful Landscape.
The most important building in Malinaco is the Temple of the Eagle and Jaguar Warriors (templo de los Guerreros Aguila y Jaguar), which is a prehispanic arquitectural Jewel because it was built directly from the same rock of the mount.
The entrance of the Temple is the representation of the opened mouth of a snake, showing its tongue, which extends like a long carpet.
Before or after climbing the Archaelogical Zone, you can visit Malinalco Town. It is a small town but with the traditional Zocalo elements (a Kiosko in the middle of the square, markets and local business around in colonial buildings, a principal Church or cathedral) and many local restaurants
- Pros:Near to Mexico city
- In a nutshell:Hidden Mixtec Jewel
