Bergen, Norway’s second largest city,
is situated on the west coast of southern Norway. The city is called the gateway to the fjords due to its idyllic location in the middle of the famous fjord district.
Bergen is the hometown of the composer Edvard Grieg. His home, Troldhaugen, is today a museum as well as an idyllic place for a private concert. Grieghallen, the city’s multipurpose hall is situated in the city centre and includes a brand new conference centre seating up to 1500 persons.
Bergen is an old Hanseatic city, and the old Hanseatic Wharf, Bryggen, is listed on UNESCO’s World Heritage List. The city centre of Bergen includes the famous Fish Market, Northern Europe’s largest Aquarium, as well as Håkonshallen - a Royal Ceremonial Hall from the 13th century. Bergen is surrounded by mountains. A funicular takes you from the city centre to Mount Fl¸ien in 8 minutes and to a panorama view.
