The lake is situated on one side of the Maliena hilly area on the foot of Pullan hill, 196 m above the sea level and 2km from Aluksne - near Aluksne ? Gulbene road and Aluksne narrow-gauge railway line. Its area is 17.8 ha and the greatest depth - 9.7 m. The fish full lake is embraced by meadows. On the west coast of the lake there is a house called Kesteri, and next to it - Kestery cemetery. There is a recreation and swimming place by the lake.

or Tabakdoze is on the right side of Aluksne – Kalncempji road, 10 km from Aluksne and about 500 m from house Gulbji. On the front side of the nearly one meter high pillar-like stone there is a forged cross, the foundation of which is forged deeper and makes a small cavity in the form of a tobacco-vessel. Evidently, the cross stone is a commemorative sign of some tragic event.
A legend says: “Exactly in the place where now is the stone, in the old times an old man who was on the way from Vecgulbene to Aluksne, sat down to rest and take a snuff of tobacco, but unfortunately the tobacco vessel was empty. He yearned for it so much that he pleaded the passers by, but they did not give him any. Next morning the old man was found dead from lack of tobacco. In his memory a cross with tobacco vessel was forged in the stone.” The hill with the stone at the foot is called the Smokers’ hill.
