Riga City Centre Camping

November in Riga streets
– a sole fully equipped campsite in the heart of Riga, the centre of the Baltics.

Riga city centre camping is a safe economic class lodging in the summertime, offering diversity of recreation and accommodation services and is located in a 15 minutes walk from the Old Town. The camping offers democratic environment, full service and an excellent recreation on the island that lies in the heart of Riga. It is located near the International Exhibition Centre in Kipsala, close by the historical centre of the city.

The camping offers space for 63 tents and hook up for 10 trailers. It is a facilitated territory for encampment, parking, recreation and sports providing variety of services that will make your stay here an excellent part of your visit to Riga.

Everyone is welcome here, with or without a tent. Motorists, bikers or hitchhikers can stay overnight in the city centre paying a moderate price. The camping offers tasty meals, showers and sauna, to pass the night and then to set forth. For the most active people, we offer facilities for tennis and streetball, roller blade and bicycle rental. It is a great opportunity to explore Kipsala’s remote corners, to view wooden buildings of Pardaugava or to enjoy the tourists’ paradise in the Old Town – hundreds of architectural monuments and pubs.

The Riga city centre camping is located close by the Old Town where are numerous tourist, entertainment and commercial objects. In a couple of minutes walk from the camping, there is a swimming pool, supermarket and ATMs of several banks.

Located in the centre of Riga, Kipsala offers a spectacular view to the Old Town. Kipsala is the buffer zone of the Riga historical centre included in the list of the World’s Cultural Heritage in 1997. It is of immeasurable value owing to its relief, landscape and wooden buildings (some of them are fishermen houses built in the beginning of the 19th century).

The Old Town on its turn is the historical and geographical centre of the Riga City and lies on the right bank of the Daugava river. The Old Town encloses a relatively small territory of the 13th – 18th city fortifications with unique monuments of medieval architecture .

at the Latvian Railway History Museum

When in Riga a visit to this museum is a must.
The museum is situated on the left bank of the Daugava River at Uzvaras Boulevard in an old engine warehouse. The location is just 5 minutes walk from Radisson SAS Daugava Hotel.

The complex of the building will include exposition halls, an office and an exposition in a carriage. A new exhibition hall in the engine warehouse was opened in September 2000.

There are more than a thousand items, documents and photographs in the museum collection. Communications and signalling equipment, tools and instruments of railroad repairmen, uniforms and distinguishing badges, station interior objects, tickets and delivery notes are all on display. Station buildings and railway bridges built during the time of first Republic of Latvia

In War museum you can still learn about Latvia's bloody history over the past century, from the fate of Latvian soldiers in World War I, to the Soviet occupation of Latvia that lasted 50 years after World War II, to the Third Awakening that led to Latvia's renewed independence in 1991. It also informs about the various collections and exhibitions at the museum. Also worth reading is the history of the museum itself: established in 1915 as the Latvian riflemen's museum in the historic Powder Tower in Vecriga, the museum was closed in 1940 when the Soviets took control. Reopened in 1957, it was renamed the Museum of the Revolution and for the next 30-odd years offered the Soviet version of Latvian history. After the collapse of the Soviet Union its former name, Latvijas Kara muzejs, was restored and the arduous task began of gathering information and materials to inform the public about the truth of Latvia's recent past.

Championship in the City of Ice-Hockey Fans

It will be the largest-in-scale sports event in the history of Latvia and the entire Baltics. We are proud and honoured that the International Ice-Hockey Federation has decided to assign the organisation of this important and exciting event to Latvia. Although it was very recently that we returned into the international ice-hockey community and the population of this country is only a little above 2.3 million, Latvia has already been noticed and acclaimed there. This we owe to the exciting play of Latvian national team in several World Championships as well as to our unrivalled hockey fans whose loyalty to their favourite kind of sports and to our team deserves admiration. It is not without a reason that the slogan of 2006 World Championship is: "Championship in the City of Ice-Hockey Fans".
Those ice-hockey fans, who do not really know yet where Latvia is and what kind of country it is, need not hesitate to come either! Riga is an interesting city that offers excellent recreation opportunities and cultural events. Fans will have no chance to become bored in-between the games of their teams. It is a tradition in Latvia: when we have guests, we put our urgent duties aside and do our utmost to make the visitors see and learn as much as possible. See you in Latvia in the beautiful Latvian spring, the spring of ice-hockey!

A great overview of Riga and a history/cultural lesson for me. Lots of pride, enthusiasm, and knowledge displayed in your pages. Thanks for a visit to a place I knew nothing about.

My visit to Riga was very short, the only place I saw was Lido Centre. Next time I will make sure to have time to see the railway museum! Thanks for telling me about it :-)
