Natal is unique starting with it foundation. The first version for the name of the city, says that at December 25, 1597, the fleet of Mascarenhas Homem got in to the Potengi River. And the second version says that on the Christmas night of 1599 was held a mass in Natal. (Natal is Christmas in Portuguese)

Natal is a lovely city, it´s sun, it´s sea, it´s charm, it´s an excellent life quality and the purest air in the Americas captivates who come here. Today, is one of the most important place to tourism in Brazil. As the capital of Rio Grande do Norte, with the state located in the “Corner of the Continent” and the closet point to Europe.

The "city of the sun" has a area of 172km2 and a population close to 800 thousands. Because Natal is close to the equator line and it's geographic position, Natal has a medium temperature of 28 C and sometimes days with 12 hours of sun shining. The "city of the sun" is, a city that sees the sun shining for more than 300 days a year. The truth is that almost all 450 km of the potiguar coast has the sun shining all year.

Just on the 20's , Natal started to grow real fast. During the second world war, the allied troups had a base in Natal. Their Planes, flew to Dakar , on Africa, meaning to fight in europe.

Natal's Sand Dunes, beautiful Beaches and with warm sea water (27° C) attracts people from all arround the world.

LOCAL GRAFT (Artesanato) - For those who like to take souvenirs, a visit to the Tourist Center , situeted in an old prision, can be a good option. There are a numerous little shops which sell both local and Northeasten arts and crafts, besides the traditional T-shirts which people take to give as presents to those who stayed at home. It´s Food Center offers typical food.

GASTRONOMY - Natal offers the tourists a variety of typical dishes and diversified cuisine. Among the most well know there are: “caraguejada” (with crabs), fried fish, “camarão no côco” (shrimps), oyster and lobster stew. However, the most typical one comes from the interior: “carne de sol” (dried meat), “galinha a cabidela” (chicken), “feijoada (dish of dried beans), “Feijão Verde” (green bean) are delicatessens always present on the table of “natalense”. The international cuisine es well represented with varous restaurants thet wil most definitely appeal to the most demanding taste.

CARNATAL – the biggest occasion in the state - The Carnatal, one of the biggest carnivals out of season in the counstry, is today, without doubt, the biggest and the most enjoyable popular festivity in the city. It happens in the first week of December, making the opening the Summer. It´s more than 40 thousand revellers having fun in the “Corredor da Folia”, in a extension of 3 km. “Trios Eletricos” bands and regional singers invade Natal in a festivity that takes four days bringing together tourists and “natalenses” in one rhythm only: happiness

GENIPABU DUNES and BEACH - It´s the most famous trip in Natal, wherw the buggy goes up and down dunes just a roller coaster. To end the trip a beautiful view of the Genipabu and Pitangui lagoons in the amidst mountains sand and vegetation preserved by inhabitants of the area. Still from the dunes it is possible to “glide by pachute” pulled by buggies or ride on the camels as is in the Saara Desert. 15 km from Natal on the North Coast.
