Some of my favorite memories from my 2006 trip to Italy are from Rome. There are plenty of problems with Rome, but the history and "feel" of beautiful Rome are breathtaking...there's probably little I can tell you about the history or attractions of Rome that you can't find in any good guide book, so I decided to list only tips on my favorite places, restaurants, and ways to make the most out of your visit.

I just added some tips, but this page isn't really finished yet--check back for more additions later.

Pros and Cons

Pros:Walk in the steps of history. Breathe in the air of ancient Rome. Great restaurants, good public transportation. Laidback, unhurried big city.
Cons:Crowds. Tourists. Lines. Smoking everywhere on the streets! The river is very dirty.

Looks like you had a delightful time in Rome!! My familyof 4 will be there in August & I was wondering if you'd still recommend Hotel Sonya? Could you really walk there with luggage from Termini? Thanks, Sylvia
