I have mixed feelings about Venezia...it has stunning beauty, but it is a truly decaying city. With its well-documented crisis as it slowly sinks into the water, Venice as a whole requires constant, expensive renovation. Very few locals actually live here anymore, many beautiful buildings sit empty and rotting, and hoards of cruise-ship tourists invade during mid-day. You could say that Venice now exists mainly for tourists. I find that rather sad, but I can't deny I loved it...its beauty, history, romance, and uniqueness.
I do think everyone should see it once...and preferably, on a honeymoon. :) They say Paris is for lovers, but I think that could be said even more of Venice. |

| | My advice on Venice 1. Stay here overnight. Best time here is after the overfed cruise ship tourists leave. :) Night is magical.
2. Don't bother with a gondola ride. 200 Euros?? Come on...just ride the a vaporetto (water taxi) instead. Unless you're with your sweetie, that is. :)
3. Tour the Doge's Palace. The highlight of my trip was this tour. |
