Madrid and Granada | wife and I enjoying some shade (ain't she cute???) |
We travelled to Spain and Andalucia in late March and had a great time. The weather was a bit hot, but not unbearable. Make sure to see the Prado Museum in Madrid and make the trip down to Seville and Granada. The Alhambra in Granada is one of the most beautiful man-made things on earth- truly magical. Find a nice tea shop on a back street and take in the whole experience. Wandering the streets in Granada, is a must! Don't worry about getting lost in the winding streets (you will, but it won't be far). A very quaint town and the Muslim community is prevalent in the 'tea distric'. Spanish people are some of the nicest and most generous people in the world. A great hotel in Granada was La Casa de los Cinco Gatos. (house of five cats.) Big rooms/ low price/ awesome hosts. Looking forward to seeing Barcelona next time. Visiting the Alhambra, the hilltop fortress/ palace built by the Moors was a life-long dream for me and actually being there was even more amazing than I thought it would be. It was all very magical; walking around the gardens, listening to the fountains in the Generalife and the Court of the Lions, and watching being entranced watching the reflections rippling in the pond in the Court of the Myrtles. All I can say is, wow. For a warm-up primer I would highly recommend reading, "Tales of the Alhambra" by Washington Irving. Irving was an American author who lived for a while at the Alhambra in the 19th c. |
