The Classical View In Winter You had probably seen many pictures about this wonderful castle called "Neuschwanstein", but maybe you don't know that it was build up by the unforgettable King Ludwid II, a charming unlucky man, belowed by the Bavarian people, the same king that lived also in Hohenschwangau Castle, Linderhof Castle and the Herrenchiemsee Castle. In my opinion all those castles are the symbol of the human imaginary, when we think about fairytales and legends. The King loved to live in a fantastic world, where it was possible to have a personal vision of life, full of romantic visions and classical music (don't forget that he was a friend of Wagner, and that the musician was hosted many times by the King). |
| | I took this picture from the MarienBrucke, a bridge that surrounds the castle area and that connects it to the forest close to it. If you will visit Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau you can't miss to walk along the bridge, because only there you can have a landscape like this. Remember that, especially in summer, there are very long lines of people entering the castle, so the best way to enjoy your stay is to arrive there early in the morning, to buy your ticket, to wait about 30 minutes and at the end, to choose to walk around it, searching for MarienBrucke. At the end of your visit take a stop by the Alpsee. |
The Hohenschwangau castle, built up in the 12th centuries, represents a jewel of the german Romanticism period. After its edification it became a center of Minnesang (a kind of love song). The owners of the castle, the Schwangau knights, were also famous Minnesanger (they are used to talk and sing some songs about love). The Schwangau knights, estinguished in the 16th centuries, quit the castle some years before their end. In the 17th ahd 18th centuries, with the Napoleon wars, the castle was badly damaged. Due to its beautiful position, the ruins of the castle were bought and restored by the King Maximilian II in1832. There the son of the King, the Future King Ludwig II, spend most part of his life, fashinated by the romantic atmosphere of this castle. | | |

I did not go because it was too cold and snowy but from you picture it looks like that is the best time to go. |
