"Cycling 250 km, from Kalmthout to Bertogne" Bertogne by myriam_c

The cycling tour went in two legs. The first day the 16 cyclists drove from our home town Kalmthout to the centre of Liège with a few stops in between. They started at 8.30 am preceded by two motor cyclists who kept the roads free for them, and followed by an assistance car with spare parts, food and enough drinks. All 16 reached their destination (140 km) at 3.30 pm, which is only seven hours after they left - stops and lunch iincluded. Taking into consideration the almost unbearable heat and the last part being lots of up- and downhill, the only thing I can say is: CONGRATULATIONS GUYS!

Day two started with 2 flat tyres within the first half hour. What a waste of time! It was even hotter on Sunday and the ride, although 'only' 110 km was much more difficult. No more flat land in this part of Belgium. We had expected the guys to be in Bertogne at around 3.30 - 4 pm. At 2 pm one of the assistance guys phoned that they were going to be at their destination 'within 20 minutes'. Wow! How fast was that!
And there they were, short before 2.30 pm. They didn't even look tired! I did see a lot of red burned knees and arms, though.

Gorgeous scenery

It may be clear that I did NOT join the cyclists. Instead I admired the beautiful scenery and helped the other women prepare a huge barbecue for Sunday night. It was a huge feast, thanks to our friends of Het Keienhof.
