The town of Veurne has been built around a fortress at the end of the 9th century. It used to be one of the best fortified places in the earldom of Flanders.
On the north side of the Market trading houses have been built in 1609 in local renaissance style. Typical is the use of bricks and the docarated top window. Nowadays only the corner house on the utmost left is still authentic. The other houses have been rebuilt after the destructions during WWI. |
| | The churches in Veurne date back from the 12th-14th century. St. Walburgachurch, for example, is originated from Our Lady's Chapel and in the 10th century it was enriched with relics of St. Walburga. The gothic choir dates back from the 13th century. More info in my tips. |
