Village fleuri ... it's the least one can say!

by myriam_c - last update: Jul 2, 2005

Any idea where this house gets its name from???
Bormes-les-Mimosas is a beautiful 12th century hilltop village in the area Provence-Côte d'Azur.
The climate in Bormes-les-Mimosas is so mild and the light is so clear that plants and flowers can easily grow.
Here you can find a huge variety of flowers and plants, both indigenous and exotic, in every possible color. Especially the bougainvillea is all over the village.
Between December and February you can admire 60 different types of mimosa which wrap the village in a sort of yellow floral scarf between.
Bormes-les-Mimosas has been elected Golden Medal at the European Competition of flowered towns and villages in 2003. It deserves to be elected in 2005 as well!
View on Bormes from above
The best way to discover the charms of the old village is to wander through the numerous sunny alleys and small squares with abundant vegetation. Bougainvilleas in all colors, oleanders, passiflora, giant rubber plants, tree ferns, plane trees, ... Charming, intimate and quiet and a pure delight to your senses.
Besides the numerous narrow alleys he village has some typical provençal squares, each with a central fountain. From the top of the village you have a splendid view on the village roofs, on the port of Bromes and on the Iles d'Or.
Colorful houses
The houses have sparkling colours, façades have ancient patina, and the whole village breathes the atmosphere of the south.
The craftsmen's workshops and ateliers d'art add to this atmosphere.
And of course, the main square is very much appreciated by the locals who play pétanque there!
