We have spent a fantastic 5 days in the French Alps. We stayed at Les 2 Alpes, a famous ski-resort but also a famous spot for VTT (mountainbike). The day we arrived the 'Mondial du VTT' (raid) was held. The place was crowded and all the hotels were fully booked. After the weekend peace had come again and the village was beautifully quiet.
Funny detail: we walked in the village in our shorts and T-shirts and came across various young folks wearing their skiing outfit and skis or a snowboard under their arm. Summer skiing on the glacier (the highest one in Europe) is possible here until around mid July.
My husband cycled l'Alpe d'Huez (amongst others). He started in Bourg d'Oisans (alt. 730 m) and ended in l'Alpe d'Huez (alt. 1860 m) some time later. I didn't chronograph his time but he did very fast. Hoorah!
We made various daytrips. The area is so beautiful, and there's a lot to see: pretty small towns and ... mountains, of course! We drove the Tour du Col de la Croix de Fer which included 4 cols: Croix de Fer, Télégraphe, Galibier and Lautaret.
We visited the artist village of Venosc where we enjoyed an excellent lunch "déjeuner sur l'herbe" at Château de la Muzelle. Furthermore we visited St. Jean de Maurienne, Bourg d'Oisans, etc.
A lot more pictures to follow. Stay tuned ...

Groeten Tom
