"Mombasa, Diani Beach" Mombasa by myriam_c

Last part of my travel report.

Our beach hotel is situated south of Mombasa which means that we have to take the Likoni ferry that connects the city with the southern beaches. It's rush hour in Mombasa and thousands of people need to take that ferry. Oh boy!

After a transfer of an hour we arrive at dawn in our paradise on earth: hotel Southern Palms at Diani Beach, een oasis of luxury and calm. The hotel is built in typical African-Moorish style and our room has an authentic four-poster bed. The white sandy beach is the most beautiful we've ever seen. Kilometers long, just for ourselves. This whole week we enjoy the sun, the sea, the beach and the pools. We search and find the most beautiful seashells and we fill a plastic bag with sand, for our collection. We talk to the fishermen and look at their catch of the day: guitarfishes, stingrays, big purple jelly-fishes.

The next day we visit the public school (read: poor-kids-school) of Ukunda.

As a goodbye, Kennedy, our personal security guard, gives us the lyrics of a Kenyan welcome song:
Jambo, jambo bwana
habari gani,msuri sana
wageni wakaribishwa
Kenya yetu hakuna matata
Kenya nchi nzuri hakuna matata
Kenya kuna upendo hakuna matata
HAKUNA MATATA.

We will never forget this vacation.
