What a surprise Lille was to us! Although we live relatively close, only one and a half hour by car, we had never been in this city before and didn't know how beautiful it was. In 2004 Lille was one of the cultural capitals of Europe, so probably there has been some major renovation going on prior to this event. Anyway, the city was just lovely! We wandered around the Vieux Lille and the newer Lille and admired the architecture. It's so very Flemish, although this should not be a surprise as Lille finds its origin under the Counts of Flanders. Pictures in the various travelogues. |
